Some things to keep in mind before students participate in a student exchange program

1. Passport

Currently, Vietnamese passports are valid for 10 years. Students must apply for or renew their passport before applying for a visa as many countries will not issue a visa or allow entry unless the passport is valid for at least 06 months. Please note that passport processing can take 14 working days or longer. Passport guidance information can be found here.

2. Visa

It is the student’s responsibility to apply for a visa and pay the associated fees. Depending on the country and its requirements, visas can take anywhere from a few days to a few months to process. Students should visit the website of their country’s Embassy or Consulate General in Vietnam for the necessary application forms and apply as soon as they receive their Letter of Acceptance from the partner school.

3. Budget

Budgeting is essential when studying abroad. Depending on your lifestyle, each student will have a different budget. Below is a list of common expenses that should be planned for before departure:

  • HUFLIT tuition fees for each exchange semester
  • Study abroad fees
  • Student visa
  • Airfare (round trip)
  • Health insurance
  • Accommodation
  • Eat and drink
  • Textbook
  • Personal expenses
  • Travel and tourism
Careful preparation will help you have an enjoyable and meaningful study abroad experience

4. Accommodation

The partner school will provide dormitories or suggest a list of accommodations for students. Students can choose their own accommodation and must inform the person in charge of the partner school of their accommodation address.

5. Airport shuttle service

Some partner schools will provide airport pick-up service. Students should inform the person in charge of the partner school of flight information for convenient arrangement. If the partner school does not have this service, students must travel by public transport or taxi service. Students should contact the person in charge of the partner school for instructions.

6. Health insurance

Some partner schools require students to purchase health insurance as part of their admission requirements. Students should discuss with the partner school in advance to purchase the most suitable insurance. In cases where the partner school does not require health insurance, it is still necessary to cover emergencies.

7. Always keep in touch with HUFLIT program managers and partner schools

Always inform the person in charge at the partner school about the student’s travel or any plans to move out of the residence during the study abroad period. Keep in regular contact with the HUFLIT person in charge whenever the student has any problems during the program.
