HUFLIT expands international experience opportunities for students
In order to help students of the International Relations Department better understand the Vietnam – US relationship before and during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Faculty of International Relations in collaboration with the Foreign Affairs Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages - Information Technology and the US Consulate organized a thematic report: “Vietnam – US relations during the Covid-19 period”.

Since the normalization of diplomatic relations in 1995, the Vietnam-US bilateral relationship has developed rapidly, achieving many positive achievements in many fields. As of April 5, 2022, the United States is the country that provides the most vaccines to Vietnam with about 38 million doses. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and US businesses have also actively shared and supported Vietnam with means and equipment to prevent and fight the epidemic during the Covid-19 period.
In order to connect exchange activities for students of the International Relations Department – HUFLIT with the US Consulate, helping students better understand the Vietnam – US relationship in the context of the impact of the Covid – 19 pandemic as well as recognize new steps in bilateral relations between the two countries, the Faculty of International Relations coordinated with the Foreign Affairs Department to organize a talk show: “Vietnam – US relations during the Covid – 19 period ” on the morning of April 20, 2022.

In this event, Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology is pleased to welcome distinguished guests from the US Consulate: Ms. Dorothy Mayhew – Head of Political Affairs and Ms. Allison Haugen – Vice Consul. Ms. Dorothy Mayhew and Ms. Allison Haugen are also the keynote speakers of the program.
Speaking at the reception, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Principal of the University highly appreciated the efforts to build and develop bilateral relations between Vietnam and the United States over the past years. Especially since the normalization of diplomatic relations in 1995, the Vietnam – United States relationship has developed rapidly and strengthened cooperation in many fields of economics, culture, education and technology. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan also hopes that cooperation and connection activities between the two governments of Vietnam and the United States in general as well as universities between the two countries in particular, including HUFLIT. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan sincerely thanked the presence of representatives of the US Consulate for having a friendly talk with students of the Faculty of International Relations.

Throughout the program, Ms. Dorothy Mayhew and Ms. Allison Haugen took turns sharing information on cooperation between Vietnam and the United States during the past 2 years of the Covid pandemic, including many activities in areas such as medical support, economic-trade cooperation, cultural-educational exchange… and assessing the significant changes in socio-economic activities caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in the United States, Vietnam as well as many other countries in the world. Ms. Dorothy Mayhew spent time interacting and answering questions from students about the Vietnam-US relationship from the past to the future, about the US foreign policy towards the Asia-Pacific region and the importance of Vietnam in US diplomatic relations in Asia… In addition to sharing frankly, sincerely and openly, Ms. Dorothy Mayhew also expressed her love for the country and people of Vietnam. She appreciated the interest of the students of the Faculty of International Relations in the United States and presented special gifts from the Consulate to those who asked questions.

The talk show “Vietnam – US Relations in the Covid-19 Period” attracted nearly 150 students of the Faculty of International Relations to participate with the main language being English. After this program, the Faculty of International Relations, HUFLIT will continue to expand the connection activities between students, lecturers and the US Consulate in the near future.
