HUFLIT’s Korean Language Top Scorer – A Story of Preserving Cultural Identity in Modern Life
From Hue – the land of heritage – comes freshman Van Huy, HUFLIT’s 2025 Korean Language Top Scorer, who brings with him a deep love for his hometown and a strong desire to preserve cultural identity in the fast pace of modern life.
From the love for Hue to a passion for the Korean language
As a native of Hue, Huy speaks of his hometown with great pride.
“Hue, to me, is a beautiful land — beautiful in its voice, its culture, and its people,” he said with a bright smile and the gentle warmth that reflects the spirit of Vietnam’s ancient capital.
Huy once won Second Prize in the city-level Geography Contest. His curiosity about the world led him to explore the cultural beauty of many regions.
“I’ve always been curious — especially about beauty. That curiosity pushes me to discover new places and their unique stories,” Huy shared.
That same curiosity opened the door for him to explore the culture and language of Korea.
“When I first encountered the Korean language, I found the Hangul alphabet fascinating. Before I knew it, I had already fallen in love with it,” he recalled.
From that moment, his passion for the Korean language began to grow — a love strong enough to inspire him to leave Hue for Ho Chi Minh City and start his journey at HUFLIT.
HUFLIT – A bridge that connects cultures
Moving to a big city was not easy for Huy at first. The Hue accent sometimes made communication challenging.
“At first, I was a bit shy because some of my classmates couldn’t understand my accent,” he shared.
But soon, Huy found his place. Within a few weeks, he had made friends from Ha Tinh, Ho Chi Minh City, Long An, Ca Mau, and Dong Thap — places he had only known through maps before.
For Huy, HUFLIT feels like a colorful meeting point, where everyone brings their own unique story. Together, they form a diverse yet harmonious community — a place where Huy realizes he can share his own story of identity and hometown pride.
Telling cultural stories through flashmob
Few would guess that behind his calm and modest appearance, Huy has a strong passion for flashmob dancing — a vibrant and expressive art. He has built an impressive list of achievements in this field.
To Huy, flashmob is more than just performance; it is a language — a way to share Vietnamese culture with the world.
“I feel proud to showcase Vietnamese elements like the ‘Dong Son bronze drum’ and ‘calligraphy art’ through my dance performances,” he said with enthusiasm.
At HUFLIT, Huy hopes to continue nurturing his passion and use it to tell cultural stories in his own way.
“University isn’t only a place to learn academic knowledge. It’s also a place to live with passion. At HUFLIT, I want to join extracurricular activities, especially flashmob, where I can express my pride in Hue and Vietnamese culture through every movement.”
Writing the story of Vietnamese identity in the heart of youth
From Hue to Ho Chi Minh City, from the classroom to the flashmob stage, Huy carries with him the pride of his homeland — a pride that shines through his words, actions, and dreams.
The story of HUFLIT’s Korean Language Top Scorer is not only a story of passion but also a reflection of HUFLIT’s young generation — confident, dynamic, and deeply connected to their cultural roots.
HUFLIT will continue to be a place where young hearts like Huy’s can explore knowledge and celebrate cultural identity. And perhaps, amid the lively rhythm of campus life, Huy’s story will inspire many others — young people who are also finding their own way to preserve and express the Vietnamese spirit in a modern world.
