What Is English Customer Care? What Is the Work Like?
What is English customer care?
English customer care (Customer Service/Customer Support/Customer Care) is the activity of supporting, advising and resolving the questions and complaints of foreign or international customers, using English as the main communication language.
Unlike ordinary customer care that only serves the domestic market in Vietnamese, English customer care staff must be proficient in communicating in English through many channels: phone, email, live chat, social media. They play the role of a bridge between the enterprise and international customers, ensuring the best service experience and resolving problems quickly and effectively.

Why do you need to carry out customer care
Customer care is not only a support department but also plays a key role in the enterprise’s business strategy.
Retaining customers, creating loyal customers
According to research by Harvard Business Review – a reputable business-management magazine published since 1922 by Harvard Business School, retaining an existing customer is 5-25 times cheaper than seeking a new customer. Good customer care helps:
- Increasing satisfaction: When customers receive enthusiastic, professional support, they feel respected and trust the brand. A call that resolves a problem quickly, a timely email response can turn a difficult customer into a passionate supporter.
- Creating loyal customers: Satisfied customers will return to buy products/services many times and recommend them to friends and family. They become free “brand ambassadors”, actively promoting through word-of-mouth marketing.
- Handling complaints effectively: Even when there is an error, the process of resolving customers’ complaints and questions quickly and sincerely can turn a crisis into an opportunity. Customers will highly value the enterprise’s commitment.
Attracting potential customers
Customer care not only serves current customers but also attracts new customers through:
- Positive reviews: In the digital age, customers usually read reviews before deciding to buy. A professional customer-care team creates many 5-star reviews, attracting potential customers.
- Professional advice: Good customer care staff not only answer questions but also advise on suitable products/services, converting inquirers into buyers.
- Building reputation: Good customer-care service helps the enterprise build a reputation in the market, creating a competitive advantage over rivals.
Saving budget to the maximum
Investing in customer care actually saves costs in the long term:
- Lower marketing costs: Loyal customers need less advertising to return, and referred customers cost no marketing fees.
- Reducing the churn rate: Good care helps retain customers, avoiding the situation of customers switching to competitors and the enterprise having to continuously and expensively find new customers.
- Optimising the process: Through customer feedback, the enterprise detects and remedies errors in products/services, avoiding later crisis-handling costs.
The importance of English in the customer care industry
English is increasingly becoming an essential requirement in the customer care industry, especially when the enterprise wants to expand into the international market.
- Accessing the global market: English is the most popular language in international business. Enterprises serving customers from the US, Europe, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines… all need English customer care staff.
- Working at multinational companies: Large corporations such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Shopee, Lazada all require customer service staff able to communicate well in English to support global customers.
- A higher salary: According to a survey by VietnamWorks, customer care staff with good English (IELTS 6.5+) have a salary 30-50% higher than those who don’t know English in the same position.
- Promotion opportunities: Knowing English helps you access higher positions such as Team Leader, Quality Assurance, Training Specialist, Operations Manager – positions that usually require communicating with international management.
- A professional working environment: International BPO companies usually have a modern working environment, methodical training and better welfare policies compared to domestic companies.
