More Than “Storytelling” – The Secret to Turning Experience into a Personal Mark at Work, for Students & Alumni

The art of Storytelling: When a story is a weapon of persuasion

For alumni just 1 – 3 years into their careers, presentation and persuasion skills are always a major challenge. Understanding that importance, the training session did not focus on flowery or hollow concepts. Instead, the programme showed how to package personal experience into a coherent, logical system of information powerful enough to move the person in front of you.

The highlight that truly made the hall “explode” was the role-play practice. The HUFLITers were divided into groups, playing tourism service consultants, and had to combine logical thinking with the art of storytelling to close a sale with a customer on the spot. This is how HUFLIT Mentoring simulates the real pressure of the workplace, helping participants upgrade their presentation skills and discover the most confident version of themselves.

The one who lit the fire: From HUFLIT alumnus to CEO reaching the international stage

Accompanying and leading the “Storytelling #2” training was Mr Trần Hùng Thiện – Founder & CEO at GCOMM, who is also a HUFLIT alumnus (Class of 1998 – 2002). He brought a powerfully inspiring story about his journey of career breakthrough:

• The first Vietnamese person to become a Deputy Director at Nielsen after only 2 years in a management role.
• Now Founder & CEO of GCOMM – a partner providing market research solutions for “big names” such as Unilever, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Grab and Samsung.
• Co-founder of the Fight For Dreams Vietnam project (supporting disabled/disadvantaged students), author of the two acclaimed books “Mastering Business Analytics” and “Don’t Give Up Too Soon”.

Mr Hùng Thiện’s return brought not only valuable lessons on building a personal brand but also demonstrated the spirit of continuity and readiness to lift up the next generation within the HUFLIT alumni community.
