Faculty of International Relations organized a thematic report “Truong Sa Reportage Journey”
Within the framework of the series of activities celebrating the 20th anniversary of its establishment (2004 – 2024), the Faculty of International Relations, University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City, organized a special report on “Truong Sa Reportage Journey” to provide students with practical information about life in Truong Sa through press and media activities.
Truong Sa archipelago – a very important part of Vietnam’s sea and islands, is considered a symbol of loyalty and national spirit – where many brave comrades and compatriots are guarding the vast sky and sea of the Fatherland.
Administratively, Truong Sa district belongs to Khanh Hoa province with three administrative units: Truong Sa town, two communes Song Tu Tay and Sinh Ton. The nearest island of Truong Sa is about 250 nautical miles from the mainland. With an important strategic position, Truong Sa island district always receives special attention not only from Khanh Hoa province but also from the central to local authorities. Truong Sa today is gradually changing, the facilities are equipped more and more spaciously, strong vitality covers the sacred island of the Fatherland. The special thing about Truong Sa is that in addition to the officers and soldiers on guard and fighting duty, there are also people living here on the island and on the sea.
With the spirit of “The whole country for Truong Sa, Truong Sa for the Fatherland”, the leaders of the Party, State, Ministry of National Defense and people across the country always give special priority to Truong Sa. Over the past years, the electricity system, roads, schools, stations… have been gradually completed, effectively supporting the learning and living activities of people and officers and soldiers on the island.
With that spirit, the thematic report “Truong Sa Reportage Journey” brought to students many diverse aspects of daily life in Truong Sa through the press, and the journey to record those emotional moments, from the work of protecting sovereignty, to daily economic and cultural activities… Despite facing the challenges of harsh nature and many difficulties, the ministries, soldiers and people in Truong Sa always stick to the sea, steadfastly at the forefront of the wind and waves to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
Coming to the special report session “Journey of Truong Sa reportage”, the Organizing Committee welcomed the presence of guest speaker, Journalist, Editor of the News Center of Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV). With 15 years of experience working at Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) and experiences accumulated from working trips to Truong Sa, Journalist Dao Trung shared with students a lot of useful information and meaningful messages about the task of protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty over seas and islands.
Through the program, students of the Faculty of International Relations learned useful and meaningful content such as: General information about the Truong Sa archipelago (geography, politics, historical battles to protect the sea and islands); Update new information: Treaties and conventions on the Law of the Sea and Territorial Sea related to protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty over the sea and islands; Activities of the Fisheries Surveillance, Fishermen, and Vietnam Coast Guard on the Truong Sa archipelago; Topics of press reporters working on Truong Sa, analysis and illustration.
Through the arduous journeys of reporting, the lenses of the journalists have clearly depicted each real and vivid story about the marine soldiers, the daily activities of officers, soldiers and people on the Truong Sa archipelago. This realistic transmission can help students have a closer, more specific and more understanding view of the remote islands of the Fatherland. Hopefully, with unique stories and never-before-accessed perspectives, HUFLIT students can know more about a “beloved Truong Sa” that always exists in the hearts of every Vietnamese person.
