The biggest gap between university and the labour market lies not in knowledge but in real-world experience. While businesses increasingly demand young candidates with experience and adaptability, many students lack the chance to encounter their profession early. At HUFLIT, learning is broadened through an ecosystem of business cooperation, careers activities and real-world experience throughout the training process.

Early internship opportunities: A foundation for accumulating experience before graduation

Accessing internship opportunities early helps students better understand the profession they have chosen, instead of stopping at theory. At HUFLIT, students receive career orientation right from their first year through talks, skills workshops, company tours and practical careers programmes. Activities such as HUFLIT Career Talks, HUFLIT Online Career and the Company Tours series are opportunities for students to directly access the working environment at many large companies such as MoMo, MISA, Ahamove, Suzuki Vietnam and more.

These opportunities help students engage with the reality of their profession, understand professional requirements and recognise the skills they still lack, so they can prepare earlier for the future.

Quite a few students, after their first observation visits and internships, have adjusted their career direction or proactively supplemented their professional skills, foreign languages and technology to better match real recruitment needs. This is an important transition that helps learners avoid being “thrown off rhythm” when they enter the labour market.

Business connections at HUFLIT: Broadening job opportunities while still studying

Job opportunities appear not only at the point of graduation but are formed through the continuous connection between students and businesses throughout the university years.

To date, HUFLIT has signed more than 215 cooperation agreements (MOU, MOA) with businesses, corporations and organisations in many fields. Among them are partners such as Marriott International, SCTV, HDBank, Apollo English, ACCA and National Geographic Learning.

Cooperating with businesses aims not only to broaden internship and recruitment opportunities but also to help students access the professional environment in many different forms: from thematic workshops, mock interviews and CV-writing guidance to business visit programmes and professional skills training.

Large-scale connection programmes such as HUFLIT Career Fair 2026 attracted 84 businesses, more than 5,000 participating students and brought nearly 2,900 internship and job opportunities. Alongside recruitment activities, students also took part in 1:1 CV feedback, skills workshops and direct interviews with recruiters.

In parallel, the HUFLIT Career Hub platform acts as a regular connection channel, helping students proactively search for suitable internship and job opportunities while accessing recruitment trends in a digitalised direction.

The combination of direct connection and a digital platform creates a continuous ecosystem where students not only “look for jobs” but also step by step understand how the labour market operates.

Choosing a learning environment – a competitive advantage in the labour market

In a competitive labour market, the difference between candidates lies not only in qualifications but in their level of work-readiness.

A student with real-world experience, who has taken part in internships and has connections with businesses and understands the real working environment, usually has a clearer advantage when entering the labour market. This is also why a learning environment tied to professional experience is increasingly becoming a factor that many parents and students care about.

University is not only a place to accumulate knowledge but also a stage of preparation for the career journey ahead. When they access businesses early, take part in real-world activities and proactively build professional experience during their studies, students will have more advantages when they enter the labour market. At HUFLIT, shortening the distance between the lecture hall and businesses is not just an orientation but has become part of the students’ learning experience, helping them be more proactive in their future careers.

At the HUFLIT Faculty of Foreign Languages, M.A. Tran My Uyen (Vice Dean) goes by many names. Some call her “Ms My”; her students call her “mother”. Colleagues often compare her to Mother Au Co with a hundred children. Yet to become the “mother” of the lecture hall she is today, she went through a profound shift in thinking that completely changed a teaching philosophy built over more than 30 years.

Many students choose the Tourism and Hospitality field simply because they love to travel. But passion alone is not enough to pursue this field in the long run. What matters more is understanding the nature of the discipline, its professional requirements, and the qualities needed to grow in a professional service environment.
