Recently, HUFLIT students had the opportunity to experience a real-world working environment and gain deeper insights into journalism in the context of digital media at the newsroom of Thanh Nien Newspaper.

The field trip not only provided students with professional knowledge but also sparked inspiration and career orientation for those interested in media and journalism. The activity was part of an annual enterprise visit series organized by the Faculty of Oriental Languages and Cultures, aimed at strengthening the connection between classroom-based knowledge and real-world professional environments.

The program was accompanied by lecturers from the Vietnamese Studies division, representatives and journalists from Thanh Nien Newspaper, along with approximately 70 HUFLIT students from various faculties, including the Faculty of Oriental Languages and Cultures, the Faculty of International Relations and Communication, and the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

Stepping into Journalism – A Learning Journey Beyond the Classroom

Upon arriving at the newsroom, the HUFLIT student delegation was introduced by representatives of Thanh Nien Newspaper to an overview of its departments, development orientation, and the role of journalism in modern society in conjunction with artificial intelligence (AI).

Journalist Nguyen Trong Phuoc, Director of the Digital Content Development Center of Thanh Nien Newspaper, delivered a welcoming address.

According to journalist Dang Sinh, the core of journalism lies in the art of storytelling for the public—where every word must be carefully weighed for accuracy, humanity, and the ability to resonate with readers. AI can support journalists in professional tasks such as rapid data processing, headline suggestions, language error checking, and audience trend analysis; however, technology cannot replace independent thinking, professional integrity, and the social responsibility of journalists.

Experiencing the Real Working Environment – Exploring the “Pulse” of a Newsroom

Alongside discussions on digital journalism and the application of AI in news production, journalist Ngoc Mai, Deputy Head of the International Desk at Thanh Nien Newspaper, also helped students ease concerns about working outside their field of study.

According to her, a modern newsroom operates like a multifunctional enterprise, not limited to reporters or editors alone, but offering a wide range of positions across departments such as finance, marketing, digital content production, and event organization. Therefore, internship and employment opportunities at Thanh Nien Newspaper are open to students from various fields—including Languages, Business Administration, and International Relations—provided they demonstrate competence, a strong learning mindset, and adaptability.

Students were also given a guided tour to observe the operational workflow of the converged newsroom model and experienced hands-on practice in the television studio during the 5:00 PM news broadcast on the 10th floor.

The visit was not only an extracurricular learning activity but also a memorable milestone in HUFLIT students’ career orientation journey. By combining insights into corporate culture with real-world experience, the program offered students a more comprehensive and practical perspective on their future paths. These valuable experiences serve as essential preparation, enabling HUFLITers to confidently seize attractive career opportunities in today’s modern and diverse media environment.
