HUFLIT New Graduate Hoàng Mai Hồng: Growing Up from the Wobbles to Reach the “Coolest” Version!

A turning point named “financial pressure”

For many people, the university journey is dreamy days. But for Mai Hồng, the university door opened at the same time as a difficult problem. The day her father was no longer able to work, the burden of daily livelihood fell on the thin shoulders of her mother. Standing before that toilsome figure, Hồng understood that she did not have the privilege to falter.

Not resenting circumstances, Mai Hồng saw pressure as a test dose. “I am not allowed to stop!” – the self-told saying in the sleepless nights became the guiding compass throughout nearly four years of youth. The young girl braced her spirit with an optimistic smile and the familiar joke “hardship first, happiness later”, then quietly mapped out a path of overcoming difficulty and studying named after herself.

The diligent nights and the light from wonderful teachers

Instead of shrinking into inferiority, Hồng threw herself into life. The schedule of the new graduate that year was a non-stop cycle: In the morning to the lecture hall, in the late afternoon hurrying to tutor, waiting tables at a restaurant, then diligently at translation-interpreting or teaching-assistant work. Life was divided into three distinct compartments: Study – Work – Self-study. There was no gap for procrastination.

“There were nights coming home from work, my whole body exhausted as if wanting to fall apart. But looking at the pile of assignments on the desk, looking back at the goal I promised my mother, I patted my cheeks to stay awake. I tried to finish studying before daring to lie down,” Hồng recalled the days of draining her strength. That stubbornness not only untangled the financial problem but also forged a Mai Hồng with mettle who adapts to every circumstance.

And on that solitary journey, fortunately, she did not walk alone. Amid the turns that seemed exhausting, the hands of the teachers at HUFLIT were extended in time.

“I am extremely grateful to the teachers in the Faculty of Oriental Languages and Cultures, especially Ms. Lan Hương. The teachers not only teach knowledge but are also the people who connect me with the University’s precious scholarships. That is the life buoy, keeping me at the lecture hall in the most difficult days,” Mai Hồng shared.

Sweet fruit for the constant efforts: Refusing to be a “copy”

Hồng’s outlook on life is very simple: Don’t stand still waiting for the limit, stretch yourself over it. And then, the seed sown in the storm also came to the day of blossoming brilliantly.

In December 2025, the name Hoàng Mai Hồng was proudly called out with the title “Talented HUFLIT Student” together with a scholarship of 60% of tuition. The moment of holding the Good-classification Graduation degree in hand, all fatigue seemed to dissolve. That is not just insensate numbers on the transcript, but the sweet result of constant effort.

The environment that respects diversity at HUFLIT not only gave Hồng knowledge but also broke the introverted, timid shell of the girl of those years. From a person struggling to find a place to stand, Hồng now possesses sharp, open thinking and a unique confident bearing.

Sending a message to the following generations of students, Mai Hồng’s message is quiet but full of weight: “Never let yourself be forced or pressured because someone out there is more talented than you. Make an effort for yourself, burn for your own passion – to confidently reach out in the form that you crave”.

Hoàng Mai Hồng’s story closes, but the inspiration named “overcoming happiness is already hard, overcoming hardship needs even more courage” will certainly still echo forever, becoming an invisible launchpad
