HUFLIT signs cooperation agreement with MGIMO – “Harvard of Russia”: Opening international doors and enhancing foreign language training strategy

In an effort to promote the internationalization of education and the application of technology in teaching, especially foreign language training, Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages ​​and Information Technology (HUFLIT) has just officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO) – the most prestigious school in Russia, known as the “Harvard of Russia”.

Starting with high-level strategic dialogue

The cooperation journey between HUFLIT and MGIMO was launched in November 2024, when Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Rector of HUFLIT – made his first visit and work at MGIMO, laying the foundation for the partnership between the two schools. By March 2025, the cooperation proposal between MGIMO and HUFLIT was officially approved by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, opening up opportunities to promote bilateral academic relations in a formal and sustainable manner.

In April 2024, HUFLIT and MGIMO jointly organized a bilateral discussion session within the framework of the “10th Vietnam Day at MGIMO” with the theme “Prospects of Vietnam-Russia cooperation in the field of science and technology”, marking the first step in the academic cooperation roadmap between the two sides.

Following that, on May 26, 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu – Vice Principal of HUFLIT, and Director of the Institute of Applied Training and Research – visited and worked at MGIMO. Here, he and Dr. Andrey Baykov – Vice Principal in charge of Research of MGIMO – signed a Memorandum of Understanding, officially establishing a comprehensive academic partnership between the two universities.

Promoting cooperation in foreign language teaching, AI and applied research

The meeting was attended by many leading scholars and experts of MGIMO, including Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova – Director of ASEAN Center, Dr. Marina Chigasheva – Head of Language Education Department, along with lecturers and members of the Neurolinguistics Research Group.

The two sides shared their training strengths, especially the method of applying new technology in foreign language teaching. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu also introduced HUFLIT’s outstanding innovations in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching activities, and discussed with MGIMO professors from the Neurolinguistics Research Group about opportunities for academic cooperation in this field.

During the working trip, the HUFLIT delegation also visited the Neuromarketing Laboratory and the ASEAN Center – two typical research units of MGIMO in the fields of technology and regional relations.

MOU – the door to joint training and research programs

The Memorandum of Understanding between HUFLIT and MGIMO opens up many opportunities for practical and long-term cooperation in the fields of training and research. Accordingly, the two sides will promote student and lecturer exchanges, co-recognition of credits and curriculum, sharing of learning materials and teaching methods.

At the same time, HUFLIT and MGIMO will coordinate to organize international scientific conferences, as well as jointly develop research projects on applying technology in education and languages ​​– laying the foundation for sustainable academic connections between the two schools.

MGIMO – Global Academic Partner

MGIMO (Moscow State Institute of International Relations) is a university under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, known for training the world’s leading diplomats, politicians and international experts. The school currently teaches 55 foreign languages, including 33 oriental languages ​​- a number recognized by the Guinness World Records Organization.

The cooperation with MGIMO is a strategic step in improving the quality of foreign language training and expanding HUFLIT’s international cooperation network, especially meaningful for the Faculty of International Relations and Communication. In the future, many other faculties will also have the opportunity to access and develop academic cooperation programs with one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

The cooperation agreement with MGIMO once again affirms HUFLIT’s position and international integration capacity. The school firmly pursues the strategy of internationalizing education through developing high-quality training programs in foreign languages, integrating advanced technology into teaching and expanding cooperation with leading universities in the world.
