HUFLIT and Emulation Bloc 17 Break Ground on a Charity Bridge in Vinh Long Province

The ceremony was attended by the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tra Cu commune; representatives of the leadership of 10 member universities of Emulation Bloc 17 – Ho Chi Minh City, together with a large number of local residents and students in the two hamlets of Vam Buon and Xom Choi.

A bridge that connects dreams

The charity bridge is being built in the area bordering Vam Buon hamlet and Xom Choi hamlet, Tra Cu commune. This is an area with a large Khmer population, where transport infrastructure is still very limited. In particular, the road to school for more than 100 students here is frequently disrupted, especially during the rainy and stormy season.

Understanding those difficulties, in a spirit of mutual love and support, Emulation Bloc 17 decided to mobilise resources to invest in building a solid bridge. According to the design, the structure is expected to be around 24m long and 3.2m wide, including the approach roads on both sides up to the bridge.

The community joining hands and HUFLIT’s mark

The total cost of the project is 403,500,000 VND. Of this, the member universities of Emulation Bloc 17 contributed 353,500,000 VND; residents of the two hamlets contributed 30,000,000 VND; and the Tra Cu Hometown Liaison Committee supported labour worth 20,000,000 VND.

At HUFLIT in particular, responding to Plan No. 17/KH-DNT issued on 24 March 2026, all of the university’s staff united to donate. As a result, HUFLIT contributed 38,500,000 VND to the project (exceeding the initial target of 35,000,000 VND). This is proof of the social responsibility and community spirit of the university’s teaching collective.

Towards the day of completion

Speaking at the ceremony, the representative of Emulation Bloc 17, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Ngọc Vũ, emphasised: “This is not merely an infrastructure project, but also a bridge connecting the affection between the universities in Ho Chi Minh City and the people of Tra Cu commune”.

According to the plan, the project is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of August 2026. Once inaugurated, the bridge will serve the travel and agricultural transport needs of nearly 700 households across an area of 323 hectares, while ensuring absolute safety for students to walk firmly to school in the new academic year.
