HUFLIT’s Japanese Studies Department Organizes Yukata Experience Activity – “Open Campus”
The event offered students an opportunity to experience the traditional beauty of the Land of the Rising Sun by wearing the Yukata – Japan’s signature summer attire
The activity “Open Campus: Yukata Cultural Experience” was a special highlight of the “Discover Japan 2025” contest. Beyond simply trying on the attire, students also learned about the cultural meanings behind each detail of the Yukata – from color selection and Obi tying to the elegance and simplicity the garment represents.

In a warm and elegant setting, students had the chance to wear traditional Yukata under the detailed guidance of representatives from Manabi Japanese Language Institute, the event’s sponsor. Through this experience, they not only learned the techniques of wearing the garment but also gained a deeper appreciation for the grace, precision, and harmonious philosophy of Japanese culture.
The Yukata cultural experience event created a cultural space where participants could do more than simply try on traditional attire – they could truly feel the refined and graceful beauty of Japanese culture. From selecting colors and patterns to tying the Obi belt, each student was gently guided into an ancient world where every detail carries profound meaning and respect.

The event was not only an opportunity to learn about traditional attire but also a chance to appreciate enduring cultural values – from the elegance reflected in every stitch to the spirit of respect and humility embodied in each gesture. This subtle beauty left a lasting impression on the students, inspiring in them not only admiration but also a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japanese cultural values.
The activity also made a positive contribution to enhancing the quality of education in HUFLIT’s Japanese Language and Oriental Studies (Japanese Studies major) programs. It served as a meaningful initiative accompanying students on their journey of learning, research, and cultural integration with Japan.
