HUFLITers explore the vibrant world of visual language with the Art Director of L’Officiel Vietnam magazine
Not only focusing on the challenges and strict demands of an Art Director – who is behind the creative visual concepts for communication campaigns, especially in the fashion industry – the talk show “Visual Code” also opened a journey into the world of visual language, where every layout, color palette, and composition carries a story and conveys a powerful message to the audience.
The guest of the program, Mr. Đặng Thanh Bình – Art Director of the renowned fashion magazine L’Officiel Vietnam, has previously served as Art Director for prominent projects such as The New Mentor 2023, The Next Gentleman 2024, and collaborated with leading brands including VinFast, Range Rover, Chanel, Hermès, and Louis Vuitton. With many years of professional experience, he shared with HUFLIT students authentic career stories, valuable lessons, and a strong source of professional inspiration.

At the beginning of the session, Đặng Thanh Bình helped HUFLIT students better understand the role of an Art Director – the person who shapes the visual identity of communication campaigns, from fashion and advertising to artistic events. An Art Director not only needs a strong aesthetic sense but also a deep understanding of the market, awareness of trends, and the ability to convey brand messages through visual language. He also skillfully explained the differences between an Art Director and other creative roles such as Creative Director and Designer, helping students avoid confusion.

Building on real-life stories from past projects, Mr. Bình shared his professional journey, including moments of high-stakes pressure, how he navigated tight deadlines, and ways he rekindled his inspiration when feeling burned out. Being an Art Director involves not only creativity but also team management, cross-department collaboration, and the responsibility of maintaining both the concept and the spirit of the entire project.

The Q&A session served as a bridge, allowing students to engage directly with Mr. Bình about career paths, essential qualities for pursuing Art Direction, and his experiences facing real-world challenges in the industry. Each response from the speaker was relatable, practical, and full of positive energy.

The program was not just about gaining professional knowledge; it also served as a space for HUFLIT students to connect with industry professionals. Every career story and real-life experience was shared with sincerity and passion, helping students not only gain a deeper understanding of the Art Director role but also fueling their motivation to pursue creative dreams. From questions asked, handshakes, commemorative photos, to brief yet meaningful conversations, all these moments contributed to building a community of HUFLITers who love creativity, dare to dream, and are ready to step into the vibrant world of visual arts ahead.

The talkshow “Visual Code – The Visual Code” came to a close, but the stories, knowledge, and inspiration it brought will continue to accompany HUFLIT students on their journey to conquer the Creative – Visual industry. This event proved to be both practical and meaningful, helping students not only gain a deeper understanding of a specialized profession but also strengthen their confidence, passion, and resilience to step into a professional, dynamic, and highly competitive creative environment.
