Expanding AI training, strengthening the connection between education and journalism in the context of digital transformation 

In the context of journalism – communication transforming strongly under the impact of digital technology, especially artificial intelligence and multimedia platforms, the requirements for human resources do not stop at professional expertise but also require technology capacity, digital thinking and the ability to adapt flexibly. Conversely, higher education also faces the requirement to tie training to professional practice, helping learners approach the working environment and society’s real needs early. 

From that meeting point, the establishment of a cooperative relationship between Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages – Information Technology and Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper is expected to create an effective bridge between training – practice – technology application. With training strengths in the fields of information technology, artificial intelligence and foreign languages, HUFLIT has been deploying many technology solutions serving teaching, research and digital transformation, including the development of nearly 50 AI chatbots applied to many different fields, along with translation-support solutions, meeting the demand for working in a multilingual environment. 

These technology platforms not only serve internal training activities but also open up the possibility of practical application in specialised fields, especially journalism – communication. On that basis, the cooperation between HUFLIT and Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper is expected to contribute to raising the quality of human resources, promoting technology application in journalism activities through AI solution transfer activities, while also creating more space for higher education to participate directly in the digital transformation process of press agencies in the current period. 

The focus of cooperation: expanding AI training, transferring technology solutions and supporting the enhancement of digital capacity for journalism personnel 

One of the outstanding highlights of this Memorandum of Understanding is the content of transferring and applying artificial intelligence (AI) technology in journalism activities. Accordingly, HUFLIT will coordinate in researching, designing and transferring specialised AI chatbot solutions serving specifically the journalism field, meeting the professional needs of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper in applying artificial intelligence technology. 

The AI chatbot solution is oriented to develop in line with the characteristics of journalism activities, supporting tasks such as looking up information, processing data and optimising the content production process. The technology deployment is not a formal experiment, but aims at substantive application, with the ability to be customised and expanded according to the operational needs of the press agency. 

The strength of HUFLIT in this cooperation comes from its foundation of technology training and research, especially the Artificial Intelligence field – one of the training fields that the University is focusing on developing. On that basis, HUFLIT not only participates in transferring AI solutions, but also accompanies Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper in training activities, fostering journalism personnel applying AI, helping the journalism team step by step enhance digital capacity, meeting the transformation requirements in the new period. 

In parallel with technology cooperation, the two sides also agreed to strengthen training and professional development activities in communication – journalism. The coordinated contents include building practical courses, organising training courses and specialised seminars, creating conditions for HUFLIT students to access the real-world working environment at the editorial office, clearly understanding the multi-platform content production process and the modern journalism model. 

Besides the cooperation contents on training and technology transfer, the two units also agreed to accompany each other in social and communication activities aimed at young people, including HUFLIT coordinating with Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper to support, sponsor and spread the “Tỏa sáng giá trị Việt” Contest. Through the student network, campus communication channels and practice-tied training activities, HUFLIT will, together with Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, bring the contest closer to students – young people who are creative, full of energy and aspiration to contribute to the community. This accompaniment not only contributes to expanding the contest’s coverage, but also creates more space for students to express their perspective, social responsibility and spread positive, humane values in life. 

Laying the foundation for sustainable cooperation between education and journalism in the digital era 

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ms. Bùi Thị Hồng Sương – Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper emphasised the new requirements for the journalism team in the digital era – where political mettle and professional expertise need to go hand in hand with technology skills, multi-platform thinking and the ability to quickly adapt to a constantly changing media environment. In that context, cooperating with a training institution that has strengths in foreign languages, information technology and communication like HUFLIT carries practical significance, contributing to preparing human resources that meet the field’s real needs. 

Through this cooperation programme, we expect the two sides to closely coordinate in activities such as: organising internships and observation practice for students; participating in building and updating training programmes tied to the practice of the digital editorial office; coordinating in organising conferences and specialised seminars on journalism – communication and digital transformation; as well as jointly researching and applying new technology solutions in journalism activities”. 

With a spirit of responsible cooperation and shared value orientation, the connection between HUFLIT and Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, especially in expanding AI training, transferring technology solutionsis expected to contribute to promoting technology application in journalism, diversifying opportunities to access the real-world working environment, raising training quality and the student experience.
