The dream of founding a school for languages and information technology
The story of “HUFLIT’s dream” began more than three decades ago.
In the 1990s, as Vietnam entered a period of international integration, many foreign investors came to the country. To meet the needs of foreign enterprises, society required a modern workforce — professionals who were both proficient in foreign languages and competent in their fields.
At that time, Mr. Huỳnh Thế Cuộc, Chairman of HUFLIT’s Founding Council, was already over sixty but still deeply concerned about creating a school specializing in foreign languages and informatics.
He often wondered, “Why doesn’t a major economic and commercial center like Ho Chi Minh City have a foreign language school?”
That question sparked in his mind the idea of a school that would equip Vietnamese students with the confidence and knowledge needed to enter the new era of global integration.
After years of dedication and preparation, that dream finally came true.
In 1992, with all his passion and commitment, Mr. Cuộc founded the Saigon School of Foreign Languages and Information – Information Technology, initially a vocational-level institution. In 1994, following the national policy of education socialization, it was upgraded and renamed the Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages – Information Technology (HUFLIT).
The early years were extremely challenging. Lecturers and students had to use classrooms from another school.
Despite limited resources, the university always prioritized the best learning conditions for students. For a long time, Mr. Cuộc and many lecturers even chose not to receive salaries, devoting all financial resources to inviting qualified instructors to teach at HUFLIT.
The dream of building a learning environment where Vietnamese students could confidently step into the era of international integration began just as simply — yet profoundly — as that.
Student Success – HUFLIT’s Greatest Dream
The dream of Mr. Cuộc and his colleagues went far beyond founding a school for languages and information technology. It was also a dream of nurturing generations of successful students. HUFLIT was not only an educational institution, but also a cradle of knowledge — a place to inspire ambition and open new doors for Vietnamese youth.
Over the past 33 years, many HUFLIT students have come, grown, and spread their wings from this home. They have succeeded not only in their studies and careers but have also made their marks across different fields, empowered by their solid foundation in language, technology, and professional expertise.
“After entering the workforce, I realized that HUFLIT alumni have achieved success in many areas, not just in ‘languages’ or ‘information technology.’ HUFLIT gave me the knowledge and skills to pursue my dreams. It was also my second home, where I found inspiring teachers, great friends, and unforgettable memories,” shared Ms. Trần Hoàng Khánh Vân, Deputy Head of the Southern Office of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and a proud HUFLIT alumna.
The achievements of HUFLIT graduates are living proof of HUFLIT’s founding dream — a dream of serving society through people of both heart and intellect, striving toward happiness and freedom based on ethics and wisdom. These values have remained HUFLIT’s guiding principles throughout its 33-year journey.
Continuing the Dream for the Generations of Tomorrow
Looking to the future, HUFLIT remains steadfast in its mission to accompany the younger generation in writing the dreams of tomorrow. The university is dedicated to building a dynamic, modern, and globally connected environment — where students can learn, experience, and grow comprehensively.
HUFLIT is committed to continuous quality improvement. To date, the university has been accredited for Institutional Quality Assurance – Cycle II and has successfully completed accreditation for nine academic programs under MOET standards, including seven undergraduate and two master’s programs. HUFLIT is now progressing toward international FIBAA accreditation, further enhancing its academic reputation nationally and globally.
Alongside academic development, HUFLIT also supports students through various financial aid and scholarship programs. For the academic year 2025–2026, HUFLIT has announced a scholarship fund worth over 45 billion VND.
Among these, more than 5,000 scholarships worth over 34 billion VND have been granted to freshmen of Intake 31 – 2025, including the Top Scorer Scholarship, Talented Freshmen Scholarship, First-Choice Scholarship, Experience Scholarship, Connection Scholarship, and Scholarship for Hoc Mon Campus students.
At the same time, the university continues to upgrade its facilities to provide students with a modern, high-quality, and globally integrated learning environment.
With these efforts — in academic quality, learning spaces, and student support — HUFLIT hopes that every graduate will confidently step forward, equipped with strong language and technology skills, ready to make meaningful contributions across diverse sectors of society.
The 33-year journey of HUFLIT is a story of dreams — from the founding vision of Mr. Huỳnh Thế Cuộc to today’s mission of cultivating high-quality, multi-disciplinary, globally competent human resources. It is a journey of belief, aspiration, and dedication to serving the community.
And that journey continues — written every day by the dreams, passion, and devotion of generations of HUFLIT students, who carry within themselves the spirit of pioneers, global citizens, and compassionate hearts.
