Training course: Measuring and assessing the extent to which learners achieve the learning outcomes of a training programme

Delivering the opening remarks of the training course, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Rector, thanked and commended the support of Dr. Nguyen Hua Phung and of CEA in educational quality assurance and accreditation work. He also acknowledged the participation of the University’s staff and lecturers, expressing the hope that the training programme, together with the sharing and exchanges with the presenters, would help resolve many difficulties in the quality accreditation process for the University’s training programmes.

Over the 2 training days, the presenter shared many important topics on practising the measurement and assessment of the extent to which learners achieve the learning outcomes (LOs) of courses and training programmes, such as: the process of developing a training programme; guidance on developing/reviewing the learning outcomes of a training programme and of its courses; developing Performance Indicators (PIs) for a programme learning outcome; building and analysing matrices linking courses with the PIs and learning outcomes of a programme; guidance on linking the components of a course syllabus with the measurement and assessment of learning outcomes; guidance on methods for assessing the level of achievement of learning outcomes for each learner, and more.

Speaking at the closing session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Manh Ha, Vice Rector, emphasised the importance of quality assurance in building and operating training programmes, in which assessing the extent to which learners achieve the learning outcomes of courses and of the programme is the key factor. On that basis, the University/Faculty can review, update and improve the quality of training programmes to meet the requirements of employers.

Through this training course, the University’s staff and lecturers were trained and strengthened in the capacities needed to build and review training programmes, to design a roadmap for developing learners’ competencies to achieve learning outcomes, and to determine assessment methods appropriate to those outcomes, contributing to further raising teaching quality at Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages – Information Technology./.
