Talkshow “The Director’s Journey – The Cinematic Life” brings HUFLIT students a fresh perspective on the directing profession
A unique event tailored for students passionate about media and production, organized by the Faculty of International Relations and Communications at HUFLIT, attracted over 400 attendees.
The talkshow “The Director’s Journey – The Cinematic Life” was held on November 5, 2024, at the 6th-floor Auditorium, Su Van Hanh campus, Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology (HUFLIT). This event offered students a deeper understanding of the role of directors in the film industry while unveiling unique perspectives from insiders in the field. It also provided an opportunity to hear real-life stories, valuable experiences, and the highs and lows of the directing journey shared by an experienced and heartfelt guest speaker.

During the event, the organizing committee presented flowers and a letter of appreciation to the guest speaker, Director Ly Minh Thang. A seasoned professional with years of experience, Ly Minh Thang is a celebrated director and producer, as well as a jury member of the 22nd Film Festival. He is known for his work on notable films such as Me Chong (The Mother-in-Law), Sai Gon, Anh Yeu Em (Saigon, I Love You), Quynh Hoa Nhat Da (The Queen of Night), and the upcoming Cong Tu Bac Lieu (The Prince of Bac Lieu).
Director Ly Minh Thang passionately shared his knowledge and experiences, giving students a glimpse into the intricate and fascinating world of directing. Unlike previous talk shows focused on media or event management, “The Director’s Journey – The Cinematic Life” brought a fresh perspective by delving into the behind-the-scenes work of a director. As the creative force behind the perfect cinematic moments, directors convey messages most effectively to their audiences. Students gained insights into the emotional and creative journey of a filmmaker who crafts impactful and memorable productions.

The talkshow featured two main segments exploring various aspects of directing. Ly Minh Thang shared specialized knowledge using vivid examples from his films, illustrating the complexities of the profession. He also recounted his personal journey—a story filled with both triumphant successes and significant challenges. These candid and heartfelt anecdotes not only inspired the audience but also highlighted the essential qualities of perseverance and passion required for success in the field.

During the Q&A segment, students eagerly posed questions to Ly Minh Thang, seeking advice and deeper insights into the art of filmmaking. The director emphasized the importance of capturing even the smallest details and connecting them to create a cohesive and impactful story. He encouraged students to embrace the challenges of directing, as they play a pivotal role in shaping cinematic experiences that resonate with audiences.
