Training Course: Measuring and assessing learners’ achievement of program learning outcomes
In order to support the education quality accreditation work and equip faculty members with necessary skills to enhance the training quality and be able to measure and assess program learning outcomes, HCMC University of Foreign Languages – Information Technology (HUFLIT) organized a training course titled “Practical application of measuring and assessing learners’ achievement of course and program learning outcomes.” The program took place on 26th and 27th July, 2022, under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Hua Phung – a consulting expert from the Center for Education Accreditation – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (CEA).
In the opening speech of the training session, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, HUFLIT President, expressed gratitude and high appreciation for the support provided by Dr. Nguyen Hua Phung from CEA in ensuring and accrediting the education quality. He also acknowledged the participation of the university’s officers and faculty members, hoping that the training program and the exchange with the presenters would help address many challenges in the process of accrediting the quality of the university’s educational programs.
During the 2-day training, the presenters shared various essential topics related to the practical application of measuring and assessing learners’ achievement of course and program learning outcomes (CLOs). These topics included the process of constructing program learning outcomes (PLOs); guidance on developing/reviewing PLOs for programs and course learning outcomes (CLOs); constructing Performance Indicators (PIs) for one PLO of a program; creating and analyzing the linkage matrices between courses, PIs, and PLOs of a program; guidance on linking the components of detailed course syllabi with the assessment of CLOs; and instructions on the methods of assessing learners’ achievement of CLOs for each individual.

In the closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Manh Ha, the Vice President, emphasized the importance of ensuring quality in the development and operation of educational programs, where evaluating learners’ achievement of CLOs for both courses and programs is a crucial factor. Based on this, the university/faculty can review, update, and improve the quality of educational programs to meet the requirements of the labor market.
Through this training course, the faculty and staff have been equipped and enhanced with the necessary skills in constructing and reviewing educational programs, developing a roadmap to enhance learners’ competencies to achieve CLOs, and identifying appropriate assessment methods for CLOs. This will contribute to further enhancing the quality of teaching and learning at HCMC University of Foreign Languages – Information Technology.
